Hello! I’m Sarah de Souza,
My editing career began in the London offices of Little, Brown, an imprint of Hachette - the UK’s second-largest trade publisher - and I went on to commission and publish fiction at award-winning indie publisher Atlantic Books. Since launching my own editorial business, I’ve worked with Penguin Books, Harper Collins, and indie publishers Indie Novella and 404 Ink, as well as dozens of wonderful author clients who’ve hired me directly.
Alongside my editorial work, I’m also a writer. My work has been nominated for the Pushcart Prize, published in Ambit, Berfrois, 3:AM Magazine, Poor Lass Zine, Porridge Magazine and Tough Poets Press, and won the Hertford Flash Fiction Prize in 2015, judged by Joanna Walsh.
I have a first-class B.A. in English Language and Literature from the University of Oxford.
I come from a multicultural background (Indian and Irish) and was born in New Delhi, spending my early childhood in China and Hong Kong before moving to the West Midlands in the UK at the age of ten. These experiences continue to inform the perspective and sensitivity I bring to my editing. I serve clients worldwide.
I’m also an aspiring seamstress. Currently trying to learn how to sew with velvet and have broken two needles and my sanity. Please drop me an email if you would like to commiserate over the woes of stitching pile fabric.
